In celebrating our 75th anniversary in 2025, the United Way of Northwest Illinois marks more than just a milestone — it honors decades of collective effort that have touched thousands of lives across Jo Daviess, Stephenson, and Carroll Counties. Since its founding (originally as the Freeport Community Chest) the organization has served as a central hub that brings together donors, nonprofits, local governments, and volunteers to tackle pressing challenges in health, education, and financial stability. Over the years, its shift toward a 'Community Impact' model has focused not only on relieving immediate hardship but also on addressing root causes of inequality through early childhood readiness, chronic disease prevention, and programs that build economic resilience. This 75-year legacy demonstrates how sustained and coordinated community investment can strengthen the social safety net, improve quality of life, and build a healthier, more equitable future for all residents in our region.
